DISASTER RISK REDUCTION TRAINING

On the 3rd and 4th of December, 2019, YMCA gave a training on Youth and Disaster Risk Reduction in Kenema for 40 young YMCA members The training was very successful as all the 40 people that we invited for the training were present and joined all the way from  Pujehun, Tiama, Segbwema, Kailahun and Hangha.

The training was hosted in Kenema Pastorial Center and it lasted for two day. Young people that attended the program were very excited and interested in the training, and gave their full participation throughout the training. We trained them on different Disaster Risk Reduction skills such as; Risk Identification, Hazard Mapping, Developing early warning systems, Risk matrix, to name but few.

We climaxed the first day training with a football match between the two regions, of which the Eastern region emerged victorious. The team spirit in the room was high throughout the two days training, and the young people were very excited and interested in the training, this they showed through the way they were actively participating in the different training sessions.

Part of the training was also the development of a small scale DRR project idea. These ideas will be worked on in the upcoming months and have the possibility to be funded with 5,000,000 Leones each.

We are holding similar training for young people in Makeni and Freetown on the 9th and 10th of December 2019 respectively. The training well be at the YMCA headquarters in Freetown.
